I flew through the air with the greatest of ease, safely ensconced within the hulking metal shell of a big old jet airliner, on the way to the place of my birth. My parents had moved from Los Angeles to Vancouver in the early 1970s, both in protest against the Vietnam War and to get out of the concrete jungle of L.A.
