Debunking the Flat Earth Theory: Absolute Proof
Note: All of the central ideas in this article are my own…not that I necessarily thought of them first, of course. But I came up with these specific ways of debunking the flat Earth theory myself, without reading about them elsewhere beforehand.
I’m going to start this article by debunking one of the many supposed “proofs” that the Earth is not in fact a spinning globe, as claimed by those who believe in the flat Earth. This one is not my “absolute proof” that the Earth isn’t flat. I will get to that below. But I wanted to start off by illustrating what sort of evidence is often given to support the flat Earth theory, and show how easily many of the supposed proofs are to counter in basic scientific terms.
One of the so-called “proofs” given by flat Earth proponents to debunk the spherical Earth goes like this: if the Earth was actually a ball of rock and dirt spinning through empty space at a high rate of speed, then if you or I or anyone were to jump up into the air, we should land many feet away from where we jumped, due to the fact that the ground we are standing on is moving quickly as the Earth rotates. Jump up into the air a few feet and you should land ten or twenty or thirty feet away from where you jumped as the ground moves from underneath you.
