My international travels began on May 1st, 1990, the day after my 18th birthday, when I caught a flight from San Francisco, California to London, England to begin a summer of backpacking around Europe. I keep track of a few of the basic facts of my travels in my journal, such as how many US states and how many countries I’ve been to, the Greek islands I’ve visited, etc. So I thought I would publish that info here for anyone who might be curious. (This article was updated in February 2025.)

Santorini, Greece in 2009.
